Being a sole proprietor – it’s important for me to have some connections to others who do what I do, so we can collaborate, talk shop, and inspire one another.  I am fortunate enough to have found a wonderful group of seven who not only do all of those things – but we have all become dear friends as well.  We live in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Washington, and even in Canada (east AND west!).  Lastly – my friend Shari lives in San Diego, and was gracious enough to host all of us back in February.  We had a fantastic time doing a little bit of photography, and a whole lot of girl time – including a day trip to Disneyland (shhh – don’t tell my kids!).  We were thrilled to be able to also take some shots of her family while we were there – it’s quite amazing to see – six photographers all clustered around, collaborating, pitching ideas, and shooting some of the most amazing images you’ll ever see.  Here’s a small sampling of what I shot that day:

After moving into my awesome new studio space inside Wee Dreamscapes (in Rockwall near Old Navy) – I started up a second site to show off the new studio images, and gave it a new name:  Sugar Shots Portrait Boutique.  After having many clients cross over between both businesses – I’ve decided it would be much easier to keep up with, and much less confusing – if I show ALL of my recent sessions under this main Sarah Duckworth Photography blog.  We’ll still be offering shorter sessions at the studio on limited dates – but you won’t have to worry about which website to go to to see them – they’ll all be right here!  And to catch up – here is a sampling of images from blog posts over on the other site – bringing them over here, so everything is in one place!  I’ve had a blast so far – can’t you tell?

I come across a LOT of special dads in my travels as a portrait photographer.  I get to see these dads in action as they stand behind me acting like a complete fool, trying to get those perfect smiles they just KNOW that only they can get.  And nothing gets to me more than seeing that tender moment they didn’t know I saw.  Happy Father’s Day to all my wonderful clients – you’re the best!

Who doesn’t love Olive Garden, right?  Every once in a while, it’s fun to stray from the norm and do a bit of commercial work – so when I was contacted by the PR firm representing Olive Garden – I jumped at the chance to take some promotional images of the new restaurant and manager, Victor Rios.  It was neat to be able to get a peek inside before they were open, and if I’m being honest, I really wish I would have been asked to be paid in Olive Garden gift certificates…

So so special to be able to go into a client’s home, and capture them in their own environment.  There’s just something about doing lifestyle photography, that captures moments in such a memorable way.  I was so honored to be chosen by this family to celebrate the arrival of their second daughter – and I also had a great time with big sister, who was full of spunk!  I’m over-sharing in this post, because a lot of people don’t understand what lifestyle portrait sessions are all about.  They are about capturing you in your home, with YOUR furniture, etc.  We don’t need the home to be perfection, either – I pick where the best light is, and shove stuff out of the way, and off we go!  I decided there was fantastic light coming in through the master bedroom, so with Mom’s permission, I allowed big sister to jump on the bed in there – priceless!  And the newborn images – I was able to set up in a small space near a living room window where the light was very pretty – I vow next time to do a pull-back, so you can see how little space I need for these precious images!  And there is NOTHING like natural light on a brand new baby…
